Dredd: Mini Review

Dredd holding gun.

Dredd (3D Blu-ray)  – After the abysmal attempt of bringing the Judge Dredd character to the big screen back in 1995, my expectations for this 2012 reboot were extremely low. Thankfully, writer Alex Garland and director Pete Travis had a clue of what fans of the comic wanted to see and delivered a truly badass action film that I found to be just the right mix of over-the-top brutality and pure awesomeness. Karl Urban is also better at handling the character than Sylvester Stallone did, and Olivia Thirlby is a much prettier sidekick than Rob Schneider. As this is a film that relies heavily on effects, both the Blu-ray and the 3D Blu-ray are visually stunning and the 7.1 DTS-HD sound mix is mind-blowing. Special features include making-of featurettes, a motion comic, plus more. A regular Blu-ray and digital copy of the film are included as well. Film *** 3D Blu-ray **** (4 out of 5 stars).
