Better Off Dead (Blu-ray) – How I’ve missed Better Off Dead until now is a mystery. It is one of the funniest, most random films from the ‘80s I’ve ever seen. John Cusack gives a memorable performance as a high school kid trying to deal with the fact his girlfriend dumped him for a ski instructor. There’s skiing, animated daydreams, foreign exchange students, and whacked out parents — this is a must-see for fans of films like Sixteen CandlesSki School, and Revenge of the Nerds. The Blu-ray release has a clean HD transfer but with no special features I can’t recommend it unless you find it in the bargain bin. Film *** Blu-ray *** (3 out of 5 stars).
