Frankenweenie: Mini Review

Frankenweenie (Blu-ray) – From the very first beautiful black and white frame of Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie I was completely absorbed into the stop-motion world Burton brought to fruition and was glued to it in awe like a 12-year-old watching their first monster movie. It’s dark and morbid and references campy B-movies from the past, but it’s also one of the most visually mind-blowing experiences to sit through and is by far Burton’s best film to date. No doubt, this is a must-have title on Blu-ray as it helps bring out the contrast of the black and white and makes each frame shine. The 7.1 DTS-HD sound mix is also stellar and enhances the entire viewing experience. Special features include making-of featurettes, the original live-action Frankenweenie short, a new short called Captain Sparky vs. The Flying Saucers, and more. A regular DVD of the film is included as well. Film **** Blu-ray **** (5 out of 5 stars).
